Hey there, everyone,
we’re working on putting together the 2013 YAG (April 13-15th, in South China) workshop schedule and we want you to help host it!
It can be anything from a discussion to a skill share to a study group, you name it we’ll give you space for it.
Especially desired are ‘How To’ workshops on organizing, facilitating, and any skill you’d like to share, and 101 discussions on sexism/ racism/oppression/ consent/safer sex…. if you’ve got knowledge you’d like to share, or just want to lead a discussion about something that you see a lack of discourse around, let us know! If you have already talked to us about hosting something, email us anyway so that we can check in and make sure you’re on the schedule.
We are also happy to announce that there is a paid position available for one local food minded youth who would like to learn the ropes of catering the YAG. It is a commitment of 3 days, along with meeting with our other caterer (Jessie) and helping to gather food before the gathering. The best part is that this catering job could be an annual position for the right person, as Jessie is looking for someone to fill her very lovely shoes. If you think you’d like to fill this role, or know someone who may, please let us know. The one condition is that we’re hoping the position can be filled by someone who still identifies as youth.
If you’d like to get involved as a cook or a workshop host, let us know!
Also, feel free to join us for our second 2013 organizing meeting this coming Saturday, the 23rd at the Meg Perry Center in Portland, from 2-4 pm.
Thank you for your support, stay warm, and we hope to hear from you.
-Emma

2013 YOUTH ACTIVISM GATHERING
3 11 2012Hey there! We’re starting to work on organizing the 2013 YAG, and are looking for help! There are very few organizers this year, and for the YAG to happen, we really need more dedicated help. That being said, the organizing duties are light and fun, and watching everything come together into a really important weekend is awfully rewarding.
This year we already have a space secured, the Friend’s Camp in South China (where is was last spring), which is sort of an answer to all of the problems we’ve encountered in the past as far as private sleeping space (there are many little cabins), having enough separate meeting spaces (there are 2 giant indoor meeting halls, and lots of lawn space), a big, fully equipped kitchen and wheelchair ramps- which means that we can start planning early, and make this YAG the biggest and most fully realized one yet. But we can’t do anything without a good amount of help.
Whether you can dedicated yourself as a primary organizer and point person, or only have a few hours to toss our way to send out emails to your cool friends who want to do a workshop, please let us know. It all adds up and makes the thing go.
Thanks so much, and keep in touch at maineyag@gmail.com

2012 YAG Location
16 03 2012We just finalized paperwork to use the Friend’s Camp in South China, Maine this year for the YAG. We used this space in ’06 and ’07 and are excited to be back there. The camp features a large, easy to use kitchen, wheelchair accessible buildings, and space for more private sleeping areas for folks who would like it.
The YAG is in a MONTH, but there is still time to get involved with the organizing. If you’d like to host a workshop or discussion, please email Brody, at brodyoystr@gmail.com.
If you need a ride to the gathering, get a hold of Blynn, at blynn.diesel@gmail.com.
Any questions, comments, concerns or heck-yes’s can be sent to Emily, at emwhill@gmail.com
Directions to the camp are as follows:
Portland, Augusta, and points south:
Drive north from Portland on Interstate 295 to Interstate 95. Look for the third Augusta exit (#113) across the Kennebec river bridge to Route 202 North and Route 3 East. Continue on for 14 miles to South China. Go through the light in South China and take the next left onto Route 202 (Lakeview Drive). The Friends Camp driveway is 3.5 miles on the right. The address is 729 Lakeview Drive.
Waterville and Bangor:
If you are traveling south on I95 take Exit 127 onto Route 137 (Kennedy Memorial Drive) into Waterville. Go about a mile and half and turn right after you have crossed a small bridge, just before the road curves. Travel 2.2 miles and turn right, then go 6.1 miles to light at China Village. Continue straight at the light; you are now on Route 202. Stay on Route 202 toward South China for 3.5 miles. (This part of Route 202 is also known as Lakeview Drive.) After you pass the China Middle School, Friends Camp is the third driveway on your left. The address is 729 Lakeview Drive.
Belfast and Route 1:
From the Route 1 traffic interchange in Belfast drive west on Route 3. Go approximately 32 miles from the coast to Route 202 North. Turn Right onto Route 202; the Friends Camp driveway is 3.5 miles from Route 3 on your right. The address is 729 Lakeview Drive.
We can’t wait to see you all, and look forward to another really fun weekend.
Thanks for your support, and see you soon!
